Annotated Proposals of A New Constitutions of the United Republic of Tanzania

A scholarly contribution to Tanzania’s constitutional review process by the late D.M.K. Bishota, the first Tanzanian Dean of the Faculty of Law at the University of Dar es Salaam. The book presents an annotated draft new constitution, offering a specialist academic perspective on the long-running national debate about constitutional reform since the 1992 shift to multi-party democracy. The work situates its analysis in the context of the constitutional review commission chaired by Joseph S. Warioba, appointed by President Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete in 2012. Written in Bishota’s final years while he lived with paraplegia, this volume represents his most substantial contribution to Tanzania’s constitution-making debate and reflects a lifelong engagement with the country’s political and legal development.
