Mkuki na Nyota to Participate in the 32ndTanzania International Book Fair, Showcasing Innovation in Storytelling, Reading Technology, and Swahili Literary Culture

Mkuki na Nyota Publishers is pleased to announce its participation in the 32nd Tanzania International Book Fair, scheduled to take place from 21 to 26 November 2025 at the National Library grounds in Dar es Salaam.

Our presence at this year’s fair will provide an opportunity for readers, educators, parents, literary enthusiasts, and the general public to engage with Mkuki na Nyota’s evolving vision to inspire and nurture a reading culture that meets the needs of today’s generation.

As part of our participation, Mkuki na Nyota will introduce new and innovative approaches aimed at enriching the way communities experience storytelling, literature, and knowledge. One of the key highlights will be the showcasing of Mkuki na Nyota’s newest imprint “Digidigi”, a new audio storytelling platform.

Guided by the belief that every story holds the power to transform, inspire, and live on, Digidigiaims to elevate and expand the experience of literature. The platform will feature audiobooks, podcasts, and exclusive audio content curated for diverse age groups and interests from timeless classics and Swahili heritage literature to contemporary bestsellers and modern creative works. Digidigi is designed to offer a convenient, modern, and accessible reading experience anytime, anywhere.

In addition, Mkuki na Nyota will also showcase “Kalam Salaam, a Kiswahili literary initiative co-created with Alliance Française, Dar es Salaam and the French Embassy in Tanzania. Kalam Salaam has become a vibrant platform that nurtures emerging and established literary talent, sparks meaningful conversations, and promotes the appreciation of Swahili literature through poetry, readings, performances, panel discussions, exhibitions, and workshops.

Held on the first Thursday of every month, Kalam Salaam continues to bring together writers, poets, artists, and literature lovers to celebrate Swahili literary expression. While Kalam Salaam will not be showcased as a feature at the fair, it remains a testament to our strong commitment to advancing Swahili literature and fostering a reading culture in Tanzania.

In line with supporting early childhood literacy, we will also highlight our children’s book club Little Champs, a monthly program for young readers aged 4-9. Little Champs provides a fun, creative, and interactive learning environment through storytelling, educational play, crafts, and guided activities that build confidence, imagination, and a love for reading.

The club has grown into a safe and inspiring space where children engage with stories, develop confidence in expression, and cultivate a lifelong reading habit. During the fair, we will host special children’s reading sessions designed to inspire young readers and engage families in literacy-based activities that are both educational and entertaining.

Throughout the fair, visitors will have the opportunity to meet Mkuki na Nyota authors for conversations, book signings, and interactions. Featured authors will include:

  • Ambassador Christopher Liundi – Mara Yangu ya Kwanza
  • Ms. Sauda Simba – Saa Ngapi?
  • Ms. Blandina Lucas – Zawadi
  • Mr. Amri Abdallah – Mtale wa Ngariba
